Tall ships, wine tasting or your very own reindeer to adopt
More cool new stuff for you to try at Virgin Experience Days - sail a tall ship out of Portsmouth, take your first steps in wine tasting, or adopt a Scottish reindeer for Christmas.
You probably wouldn’t be alone in thinking reindeer were restricted to Lapland and Christmas carols, but in fact there’s a herd of about 150 living free at the Cairngorm Reindeer Centre in Glenmore.
Although, when we say ‘free’, we mean free from interference - not free of charge. It costs money to support them, which is where your sponsorship comes in.
The Rudolf’s Friends gift pack costs thirty quid and makes a terrific Christmas present - the person you give it to becomes a Friend of the Cairngorm Reindeer Herd, and you get the warm glow of satisfaction from knowing you’ve helped them continue to frolic happily in the forests.
Or whatever it is that reindeer do when no-one’s watching.
If that doesn’t appeal, why not hit the bottle with style at a beginners’ wine tasting?
For £99, you get to sample a lot of rather tasty tipple in a sociable atmosphere with a group of other people who are as new to it as you are - which means anyone who comes out with a load of pretentious nonsense about bouquets and citrus notes will get laughed at by everyone, not just you.
The aim of the course is to help you to understand wine, to learn to appreciate it and to give you the confidence to choose the wines you enjoy. No previous knowledge needed, just bring yourself.
And if that leaves you with a thick head, blow the cobwebs away with a dose of sea air and a rope to haul on at a tall ship sailing day.
Sailing out of Gunwharf Quays, Portsmouth, you’ll have a terrific opportunity to experience life on one of these magnificent ships. The cost of the day is £149.
